Split a PDF file into separate pages or custom ranges
Step-by-Step Guide
How to Split PDF Files
Splitting PDF files allows you to extract specific pages or break down large documents into smaller, more manageable files. This tutorial will guide you through the process step by step.
Step 1: Upload Your PDF File
Click on the "Drop PDF file here or click to browse" area to select the PDF file you want to split.
You can:
- Drag and drop a PDF file into the upload area
- Click to browse and select a file from your computer
- The tool will automatically analyze the PDF and show the total page count
Note: You can only upload one PDF file at a time for splitting.
Step 2: Choose Your Split Mode
Select how you want to split your PDF. There are three modes available:
Split into Individual Pages
This mode creates a separate PDF file for each page in your document.
Best for:
- Creating individual documents from each page
- Sharing specific pages with different people
- Organizing pages into separate files
Extract Specific Page Range
This mode lets you extract specific pages or ranges of pages from your PDF.
Format: Use commas to separate ranges
- Single page:
5 - Range:
1-3 - Multiple ranges:
1-3, 5, 7-10
Best for:
- Extracting a contract's specific sections
- Getting only the pages you need
- Creating custom page combinations
Split by Intervals
This mode splits your PDF into multiple files, each containing a specific number of pages.
Example: If you set the interval to 2, a 10-page PDF will be split into 5 files with 2 pages each.
Best for:
- Creating consistent file sizes
- Breaking down large documents
- Batch processing requirements
Step 3: Configure Your Settings
Depending on the split mode you selected, configure the appropriate settings:
For Page Range:
- Enter the pages you want to extract
- Example:
1-3, 5, 7-10will create files for pages 1-3, page 5, and pages 7-10 - Page numbers must be within the total page count
For Intervals:
- Enter the number of pages per split file
- Must be at least 1
- The last file may contain fewer pages if the total doesn't divide evenly
Step 4: Split and Download
Once you've configured your settings, click the "Split PDF" button.
After processing:
- A success message will appear showing how many files were created
- You'll see a list of all generated PDF files
- Each file shows its name and page range
- Click the Download button on any file to save it to your computer
- Files are named automatically based on their page ranges (e.g.,
pages_1-3.pdf)
Tip: The page automatically scrolls to the download section when splitting is complete, so you can immediately access your files.

1-3not1 - 3)
File Won't Upload
If your file isn't uploading:
- Ensure it's a valid PDF file
- Check that the file isn't password-protected
- Try a different PDF file to test
